Jessica Bowers, MD
Jessica Bowers graduated from Heritage High
School in Newport News as valedictorian in 2002. She attended Norfolk State University in the
DNIMAS (Dozoretz National Institute for Mathematics and Applied Sciences)
program, earning a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. As an NSU student, she
interned at Duke University, pledged Delta Sigma Theta, and performed research
at Colorado State University in addition to Eastern Virginia Medical School.
She attended the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine (formerly
known as Medical College of Virginia). In 2014 she completed a medical residency in
both Family Medicine and Internal Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School
where she also took graduate level courses in public health. Later, she served
as the Virginia delegate to the American Academy of Family Physicians Resident
Congress in Kansas City, Missouri. Despite her busy schedule as a medical
resident Jessica served as an instructor for small groups at EVMS, presented at
the Virginia American college of Physicians conference and served as delegate
to the American Academy of Family Physicians at its National Conference in
Kansas. During the last two years of her
residency she began work in medical missions, going to Haiti several times.
During these trips, she helped to organize a mobile clinic in addition to
seeing patients; she also spent time working at St. Damien Pediatrics Hospital
in Port au Prince. In 2014, she completed her residency physician training and
joined Old Hampton Family Medical Associates, working alongside her father and
brother. She is now accepting new patients.
"I believe it is important to spend time listening to my patients. As a family medicine and internal medicine physician, I believe preventative medicine is important. It's just as important to prevent illness, as it is to treat/cure it. By partnering with my patients, I am able to discuss and recommend a multitude of therapeutic options suited to individual needs. I therefore strive to establish treatment plans that are practical and individualized because each of my patients is special and unique."
